Student/teacher communications, SafeStop, helpful health guidelines
We are excited to share the latest updates and important information from Tulsa Public Schools. Our commitment to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for all students remains our top priority.
New Communication Guidelines
As the school year gets underway, we want to remind our families about new state legislation (HB 3958) affecting how Tulsa Public Schools communicates with students.
- Digital Communication: Any one-on-one communication between district employees and students must either include a parent/guardian or use a district-approved platform.
- Approved Platforms: Current platforms include TalkingPoints (only for students age 13 and older), K12 email accounts, Canvas, Clever, and GoGuardian. Your child may use one or more of these.
- Policy Updates: Our policies will be updated to reflect these new guidelines. A district webpage will list approved communication platforms.
Your involvement is essential for your child's success. We appreciate your support and look forward to working together to support your child’s education.
Attend to win!
Did you know that missing just two days of school per month adds up to 16 days out of the school year, which is 10% of total instruction time?! Missing a day of school here and there may not seem like much, but absences quickly add up. Tulsa Public Schools understands that many families face challenges that can make regular school attendance difficult, and we are here to help you overcome these obstacles. If you are dealing with barriers such as transportation difficulties, housing instability, or lack of resources, we can help you find solutions. Please email our Family Attendance Supports team at jarrede@tulsaschools.org for assistance.
SafeStop: your reliable bus tracker
Is your child riding the school bus this year? SafeStop is our bus tracking app for mobile phones that can offer peace of mind with real-time bus tracking including alerts of possible delays. Learn more at www.tulsaschools.org/bus.
Keeping our students and schools safe and healthy
Every day of learning matters. If your student is not feeling well, it is important to know when you should keep your student home from school. Visit www.tulsaschools.org/health for updated guidance on when your student should stay home. You can also print out this quick guide to keep on hand at home.
Upcoming FAFSA Information Sessions
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a free application that helps students determine if they are eligible for federal student aid, such as grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans. Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, all seniors must submit the FAFSA in order to graduate. You can read more about the new FAFSA graduation requirement here.
We will be offering two FAFSA information sessions in September designed to help families understand FAFSA and get ready to complete it when the application opens in December. We hope that families of seniors will join us for refreshments, prizes, swag, and to learn about financial aid opportunities and the new FAFSA graduation requirement.
